1. Who is Palmetto Recycling & Energy Recovery?

Palmetto RER is a joint venture between Energy City, LLC and Chinook Energy, LLC. These two companies have joined forces to solve our backyard energy challenges and combat local waste problems by putting to work Chinook Energy’s proven and low-temp gasification process. Palmetto RER will put South Carolina and Charleston on the map as the new energy hub.

2. What will Palmetto Recycling & Energy do?

Palmetto Recycling & Energy Recovery will create a new source of renewable electricity for the citizens of South Carolina by recycling all types of waste material into renewable electricity and cleaned metals and glass.

3. How will we accomplish our objectives?

Palmetto Recycling & Energy Recovery will develop RODECS® facilities, which use the Active Pyro® process to convert various waste streams, including industrial and municipal solid waste, into electricity and recovered metals and glass. These facilities will relieve South Carolina of its growing waste management and energy generation problems.

4. How will it convert waste into energy?

The RODECS®, a ten-year old, proven technology, converts household garbage into a combustible gas to be used to generate clean electricity. This non-incineration system also recovers and cleans any metals or glass, recycling nearly 100% of any waste stream with a negative carbon footprint and no hazardous emissions.

5. How much energy can this process produce?

Processing 300 tons per day of garbage, our facilities can produce 26 MWh of clean, renewable energy, enough to power nearly 20,000 homes. Energy output will grow as our facilities scale up to meet the growing waste management needs of our state.

6. What about pollution and harmful emissions from the process?

Gasification does not entail burning or incinerating the waste; instead it uses a carefully monitored and controlled thermal process to cause the material to decompose into its component gases. This Active Pyro® process does not result in any harmful emissions and produces a net reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, Chinook Sciences has a spotless, ten-year history of strict regulatory compliance with the toughest emissions standards throughout North America, South America, Asia, and Europe.

7. How much waste can this system process per year?

The amount of waste to be processed will be determined by plant capacity. The benefit of the RODECS® system is that we can scale up as needed to take on any available amount of waste.

8. What makes the RODECS® different from other systems?

100% Solution – The RODECS® utilizes a proprietary operating system that carefully monitors the conditions in the processing chamber (pressure, temperature, gas composition) and alters those conditions to ensure complete gasification and recycling of the waste being processed.

Modular – The modular nature of the RODECS® allows scaling up as needed to fit any current or future volumes.

Recycling of Valuable Material – The RODECS® system’s main processing chamber operates at a temperature under 1,112 degrees Fahrenheit, which allows the preservation of valuable material contained in the waste stream.
Proven – The RODECS® has a ten-year operating history, is in its eighth design generation and has been used in 17 commercial locations throughout the world, surpassing any other gasification technology by orders of magnitude.
Universal – Municipal Solid Waste (household trash), industrial waste, automobile shredder residue, hazardous materials: it makes no difference, the RODECS® will process it all without any presorting or treatment.

9. Does your system recycle?

Yes, our process recovers all valuable matter contained in the material being processed, and in particular precious components such as metal and glass. Other commonly used gasification processes may release energy but destroy any other valuables in the process.

10. Does the process take a long time?

Our process can eliminate in 45 minutes what it would take a landfill 15 years to accomplish.

11. What is the timeframe for getting Palmetto Recycling & Energy Recovery facilities up and running?

We plan to have our facilities up and running within 24 months.

12. How will this benefit South Carolina?

Palmetto Recycling & Energy Recovery will make South Carolina a leader in innovative technology and a pioneer in solving the nation’s energy and waste management problems. We will satisfy South Carolina’s waste disposal and energy generation needs with reliable, environmentally safe, and economically viable gasification solutions. In addition, we will provide training and employment to hundreds of South Carolina residents, provide world class service to all our clients, and support the local community through a variety of outreach programs.
